These dark chocolate all-natural soap bars are almost delicious enough to eat! Learn how to make them yourself with this simple tutorial.

This last weekend I had a vision in my head of a gorgeous dark chocolate soap that looked and smelled good enough to eat (an intense craving may or may not have inspired this soap idea). So I dug through my soap making supplies in search of the perfect base to make this chocolaty soap a reality!

Today I’d like to introduce you to a Stephenson melt-and-pour soap base I’ve never used before but quickly fell in love with: their Crystal Natural HF soap base.

Stephenson’s Crystal Natural HF soap base is a beautiful translucent base that has a neutral smell perfect for adding your own fragrances. It was just what I needed! What’s more, this base is all-natural too. It:

• Contains no surfactants, mono propylene glycol, parabens, phenoxyethanol, or sulfates
• Is PEG free, glycerin rich, and vegetable based
• Contains 100% natural Ingredients
• Feels great on the skin!

INGREDIENTS

To make your own all-natural dark chocolate soap, you will need:

Cubes of Natural HF Soap Base

Step 1. Melt down your soap base. I cut my soap base into small cubes and melted it in the microwave at 15-30 second intervals, stirring between intervals, until it was melted down all the way.

Step 2. Once my soap base was melted, I added two simple ingredients, the first being a chocolate fragrance oil.

While stirring, I first added the fragrance oil. It discolored my soap base a bit, but this was expected given the yellowish hue of the oil. Don’t worry!

Step 3. I then added my cocoa powder. PRO TIP: The best way to add a powder like this to soap is to first wet it using a bit of vegetable glycerin. This turns keeps the powder from forming clumps and instead allows it to mix well with the soap base. I mixed about 3 Tablespoons of cocoa powder with just enough vegetable glycerin to get a smooth chocolaty paste, shown below. I eyeballed my vegetable glycerin. If you’re not sure how much to add, start with a little, stir, and as more as you need it. While stirring, I poured my wet cocoa powder into my soap base.

Step 4. Next, I poured my mix into a 1 lb. loaf mold and allowed it to dry. Normally I would put a couple spritzes of rubbing alcohol over the top of my base once it was poured into the mold to remove those excess tiny bubbles like that to form on the top. This time, I found I liked the look of the soap with the top layer intact, shown below (this is the soap now that it has dried and been removed from the mold).

Step 5. Once your soap base has dried, you’ll have a very rich, dark chocolate soap. From here, all you need to do is slice it into bars! I once again used my favorite crinkle soap slicer.

Next time I might add some ground coffee and a coffee fragrance oil and make it a coffee mocha soap! What do you think?
