Happy Saturday, friends! I had scheduled in my blog planner to share with you some tasty white chocolate cranberry almond bites I made a while back, but it didn’t seem fitting after my impromptu diagnosis tell-all from last week. So I juggled some things around and have for you instead this yum yum delicious banana kiwi almond green smoothie!
By now you all know how much I love my Nutri Bullet (and they’re not paying me to say that! Although I wouldn’t mind if they did ;). And 99% of the reason I love it so much is I can squeeze in healthy food I wouldn’t have otherwise eaten into my breakfast. Like spinach.
Before my Nutri Bullet, I never ate spinach, unless maybe it was in a quiche or artichoke dip or something, and would have never thought to incorporate it into my breakfast. One Nutri Bullet later and The Mr. and I (mostly I) go through about 2 cartons of organic spinach or mixed greens a week! I’ve started making spinach a regular part of my salad repertoire, and when I’m just not feeling a salad, I know I can always get my greens in during breakfast.
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 large handful of spinach
- 1/4 cup slivered almonds
- 2 kiwis
- 1 Tbsp Ground flaxseed (optional–but must be ground)
- 1/2 Tbsp Chia seeds (optional)
- Ice and about 1/2 cup water or almond milk
So. Delicious. And no sugar added! My cousin calls bananas “sugar sticks,” so there you go.
- 1 cup raw spinach
- 2 small kiwi , peeled
- 1 small banana
- 1/4 cup slivered almonds
- 1 Tbsp ground flax seeds
- 1/2 Tbsp chia seeds
- 1/2 cup water
Combine all ingredients in a blender and mix well with water and ice.
All sugar in this recipe is natural sugar
Also, I wanted to share an update on my weight loss journey! Well, not so much weight loss as lets-just-be-healthier-and-then-the-weight-will-probably-fall-off journey. I’ve been using My Fitness Pal for almost a month now and as of 8 days ago started adding exercise into my routine (baby steps). I am horrible at anything physical. I’ve never been athletic, and my new PCP thinks I have exercise induced asthma (which might explain why I can’t breathe when I try to run–operative word there being “try”), but I’ve found ways around my athletic limitations, namely Zumba (which is my new favorite thing), Body Flow, and an apartment-friendly workout DVD set perfect for beginners (and let’s face it, I’m 100% beginner). And I’ve actually seen some success! I’ve lost about four pounds so far, 1/2″ in my arms, 1/2″ in my waist, 1/4″ in my thighs (not sure that counts) and 1″ in my hips!
This is working. Crazy.
Picky eaters won’t come close to anything green, much less drink it? This no sugar added banana apple smoothie might be just the trick!
