About Gabby

Hi! I’m Gabby, and I’m thrilled you’re here! On this page you will learn more about me and my personal idiosyncrasies (if you want to learn more about Mom Makes Joy, click here).

Let’s start from the beginning, shall we?

I was born (I told you we were going to start from the beginning!) and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, so I am no stranger to cloudless skies, a lot of dust, and 115 degree summers. It instilled in me a deep and abiding love of dry heat and central AC systems.

I went to a small charter high school with a liberal arts curriculum (we read Aristotle and stuff) before moving on to get dual degrees in Psychology and Family & Human Development. I was this close (*holds up fingers close together*) to pursuing a Masters/Ph.D. in Psychology and was even admitted to a program but alas! Life had other plans for me.

Shortly after turning down my admittance, I ended up packing all my worldly possessions into a 12 ft. Penske truck and moving to Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Which brings me to my next point:

THE MR.

I met The Mr. during the fall of my junior year of high school when I joined the speech and debate team he was on (yes, we were debate nerds together, and it was great). We ended up going to the same college (he was the year ahead of me) and started dating shortly after I began my freshman year in 2008. We were married three years later in May 2011.

The Mr. and I were close friends long before we started dating–he’s a fantastic listener (they don’t call me Gabby for nothin’!) and the kindest, sweetest husband a girl could hope to have. He is also one smart cookie. The Mr. was admitted to law school in the spring of 2011, which is what prompted our move to Massachusetts not long after.

THE GIRLS

Fast forward through three years of law school and another cross-country move back to Phoenix, Arizona and BOOM: We had a new arrival! The crazy-haired little girl below on the left (who shall henceforth be referred to as “Little Bo,” although that is not in fact her name) was born on January 15, 2016 and is the reason I became a stay-at-home-mom and a breastfeeding advocate. You can read about her birth story here. The chunky cherub on the left (who shall henceforth be referred to as “Little Lo,” also not her name) was born on June 25, 2018 and is the reason I fell in love with all things pregnancy and childbirth. You can read her birth story here.

MORE FUN FACTS!

I really enjoy learning new vocabulary words, especially obscure ones. Like callipygous or legerdemain.

I am a recovering germaphobe. I have this weird thing about having to wear socks in other people’s houses or I get really uncomfortable. My parents kept an impeccably clean floor growing up, so I feel very awkward if anything sticks to my feet. Plus, germs.

I hate germs almost as much as I love making soap!

Some of my favorite things include: Playing with my little girl, chai tea lattes, photography (I’d love to open up a little photography business one day), tasty Paleo recipes and eating REAL food, Netflix marathons, and of course Mom Makes Joy.

I am a Type 1 Diabetic and have been since 2008. It sucks, but it’s made me both a stronger person and impervious to needles.

Aaaaaand my all-time favorite TV show is probably The Office. I have seen every season at least five times, no joke. Fun facts.
