Did you know you can make your own organic shampoo at home? This lemon coconut shampoo will be your new favorite!
Before a few months ago, there were a lot of things I just didn’t do. Vegetables were a big one of those things. Cooking was minimal. Exercising was a no go. Back then I would much rather buy than DIY, and I definitely didn’t do anything organic.
But now? The more I strive for health and try to be in better tune with my frustrating body, the more I’ve been paying attention to and thinking about what goes into it. So when the folks at Stephenson Personal Care asked if I was interested in trying out their Organic Shampoo Base, I was intrigued. I’d never given much thought to purchasing organic shampoo (it can be so expensive!) so if there was an easy way to DIY it, I wanted to try it.
Stephenson Personal Care’s Organic Shampoo Base might just be my new favorite product of theirs. It’s incredibly easy to use, and it literally only takes minutes to create an amazing organic shampoo.
Here’s everything you need to know about Stephenson’s Organic Shampoo Base in a nutshell:
- It’s free of Sulfates, SLS, SLES and parabens
- It’s of vegetable origin and comes enriched with aloe vera
- The only additives required are organic fragrance or essential oils
- Should you desire, it can easily be adapted to suit different hair types (oily, dry, normal) simply by adding the appropriate organic additive
- It has a great creamy lather despite no SLS/SLES
- Its consistency doesn’t require thickening
What more could a shampoo-making girl ask for?
Today I am going to share with you how I used this Organic Shampoo Base to create a simple lemon coconut shampoo! All you need is three ingredients: Organic Shampoo Base, organic coconut oil, and lemon essential oil (or if lemon isn’t your favorite, you can check out other essential oil alternatives–these are an excellent quality and a great price!)
Step 1. First, measure out your shampoo base. I poured one cup of base into a bowl, which was all I needed to fill a small 8 oz. mason jar. The base is a translucent pale yellow color and has a neutral smell perfect for adding your own fragrance.
Step 2. Add about 1 tablespoon of organic coconut oil, which is excellent for nourishing your hair and scalp.
Step 3. Stir in the coconut oil slowly. I loved the look of the swirls! Mix your coconut oil; if your base turns opaque as pictured above, that’s not a problem. In fact, I love the color the coconut oil gives!
Step 4. Lastly, add your fragrance of choice! I added about 20 drops of lemon essential oil (you can add more or less, as preferred) to give it a fresh citrus scent.
When you’re done, pour your newly created lemon coconut shampoo into a mason jar, tie a cute twine bow around it (because let’s face it–everything is better with twine), and voila! A DIY organic lemon coconut shampoo, simple as that!
