Gold Honeysuckle Soap Bars

These gold shimmer honeysuckle soap bars are super easy to make, and with their sweet honeysuckle scent, they smell absolutely amazing!

Hello friends! I have an awesome soap-making tutorial for you today: Golden Honeysuckle Soap Bars! You might have seen these on my instagram feed a while back (a long while back) but we’re finally getting around to sharing these on the blog today! These are, of course and as always, super easy to make. Here’s what you got to do:

YOU WILL NEED:

• Brambleberry Shimmer Sparkle Gold Color Block for Melt & Pour Soap
• Stephenson’s HCVS Vanilla Stabilizing Soap Base
• Brambleberry’s Heavenly Honeysuckle Fragrance Oil
• A flower soap mold (This one holds 16 oz total)
• A microwavable bowl or measuring glass with handle and spout

HOW TO MAKE HONEYSUCKLE SOAP BARS:

Step 1. Measure out your ingredients, specifically your fragrance oil and colorant. I like to do this in advance, because you want to be able to work quickly once your soap base is ready to be poured.

When you purchase fragrance oil from Brambleberry, there are no directions on the label as to how much to use. But no worries! Brambleberry’s website has a super handly fragrance oil calculator that tells you exactly how much fragrance oil to use based on the amount of soap you’re making. In this case, I made four 4 ounce bars of soap, totaling 16 ounces of soap base. According to Brambleberry’s calculator, you will need approximately 2-3 teaspoons of Heavenly Honeysuckle fragrance depending on how strong you’d like your fragrance to be (I used 3 teaspoons).

As for the color blocks, Brambleberry recommends 4g of color block per 16 ounces of soap base to achieve the depth of color you see in these pictures.

Step 2. Melt down your soap base. As usual, you will do this by cutting your soap base into cubes and melting it in the microwave for 15-30 second intervals, stirring between each interval.

What’s so special about Stephenson’s Vanilla Stabilizing soap base you ask? Great question! I specifically chose this soap base because it pairs perfectly with any fragrance oil containing vanilla. If the fragrance oil itself doesn’t have a vanilla stabilizer built in already, then vanilla-based fragrance oils will often cause your soap to turn some shade of brown after a short while once the soap has hardened.

Often times I simply allow this to happen because it can give the soap a very rich color that looks great when you’re making coffee or chocolate-scented soaps. Fortunately, Brambleberry’s Heavenly Honeysuckle fragrance oil doesn’t discolor to brown, but some fragrance oils will cause discoloration without the use of added vanilla stabilizer. Remember my Cinnamon Hazelnut Coffee Soap? It got its lovely marble brown color in part from the vanilla in my fragrance oil. Stephenson’s Vanilla Stabilizing soap base, however, keeps this from happening.

Step 3. Once your soap base is melted, add your 3 teaspoons of fragrance oil as well as your 4g of colorant and stir until your colorant is completely dissolved.

Step 4. Pour your soap base mixture into your soap mold and allow to cool. Be sure the soap is completely hardened before removing the bars from your mold. Then enjoy!
